My view on multi-objective optimization and other related topics

Since 1st of October 2010 I joined the CSC/FSTC, University of Luxembourg, as an AFR-Marie Curie post-doctoral researcher.

A short overview of my academic career is provided bellow, while a detailed view on the different aspects of my professional and academic career can be find in my Curriculum Vitae pdficon_small.

Betwen September 2009 and September 2010 I was in the ALEA team in INRIA Bordeaux – Sud-Ouest as a postdoctoral researcher and responsible with the ALEA Working Group, together with Alexandru-Adrian TANTAR.

From October to December 2008 I was a guest researcher at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in the Computational Intelligence and Multi-agent Games (SEN4) Team.

My PhD thesis research on “Landscape analysis in multi-objective combinatorial optimization” was performed as a member of the DOLPHIN project-team, part of the Computer Science Fundamentals Laboratory (LIFL) and INRIA Lille-Nord Europe. In April 2009 I was awarded the title of Doctor in Computer Science of the Université Lille 1, France by the following jury:

Clarisse DHAENENS, Professor, University of Lille 1 (FRANCE), Advisor
Matthias EHRGOTT, Associate Professor, University of Auckland (NEW ZEALAND), Referee
José Rui FIGUEIRA, Associate Professor, University of Lisbon (PORTUGAL), Examiner
El-Ghazali TALBI, Professor, University of Lille 1 (FRANCE), Advisor
Jacques TEGHEM, Professor, University of Mons (BELGIUM), Referee
Sophie TISON, Professor, University of Lille 1 (FRANCE), President
Daniel VANDERPOOTEN, Professor, University Paris-Dauphine (FRANCE), Examiner

In May 2007 I was an invited researcher in the Centro de Estudos de Gestão do IST (Instituto Superior Técnico), Lisbon, Portugal, in the Prof. José Rui Figueira’s team.

I graduated in 2003 from Faculty of Computer Science, Al. I. Cuza University, Iasi, having as follow up master studies in Computational Optimization at the same faculty. In January 2005 I joined the DOLPHIN project team for 6 months as an Erasmus Exchange Student, followed by a 2 months INRIA Internship.

Since January 2010 I put in place together with Alexandru-Adrian Tantar a series of four modules (six lectures) on “Advanced Optimization Techniques”, for the CSC Doctoral School, University of Luxembourg.

Between 2007 and 2009 I was with Polytech’Lille as temporary Assistant Professor (french ATER) . From 2005 to 2007 I also gave lectures at UFR d’IEEA (Informatique, Electronique, Electrotechnique et Automatique) de l’Université de Lille 1 and IUT A de Lille, Département Informatique. And before that, from 2003 to 2004 I stipend some practical lessons at the Faculty of Computer Science, A. I. Cuza University, Iasi.

I am vice-Chair, a founding member and a promoter  of the IEEE Student Branch Lille.

During my PhD studies I was actively involved as an elected member of the LIFL council, being one of the two PhD students and postdoctoral researchers representative. Till 2008 I was also the president of the TILDA (Thésards en Informatique de Lille et Docteurs Associés) association, which I sustained as a founding member and also as treasurer (2005-2007). The main achievements from this period is my involvement as co-chairman of the organizing committee for EuroDocInfo08, member of the organizing committee for EuroDocInfo09 and my involvement in the founding of the IEEE Student Branch Lille.
